Plunkett Street Public School The Department of Education and Training approached the Department of Commerce to conserve and restore 2 historic buildings on the site. The 2 structures were in an advanced state of disrepair with water penetration a major problem. Water was pentating through the roof, rising damp in the walls and falling water through the front door. Works undertaken to date: Water was removed from the ground by aglines and the land was regraded away from the building. Water was removed from the roof as the roof sheeting was repaired and the gutters were replaced. The vegetation was removed from around the building below the damp proof course. Stonework conservation included replacement of deteriorated sandstone, repointing and synthetic stone repair. McCaffreys stone was used as a suitable match. Both buildings were made structurally sound.
